It’s been many years since my introduction to HTML. My first experience was with a Geocities tool called PageBuilder. With PageBuilder, I slowly learned the basics by tweaking the code generated by the tool, but I had a lot to learn and a long way to go. Within a couple of years, I had dabbled with Microsoft FrontPage which eventually became my tool of choice. I finally figured out that it was better to code by hand, in order to fully understand the structure and interelation of the elements. Coding HTML by hand was a major step in learning it.

When I got my first sites up and running, they remained untouched (static) until I was ready to give them a facelift. It wasn’t until 2008 that I became involved in the dynamics of an interactive website and hence created my first weblog. When HTML5 came along, it took some of the burden off of the developer by allowing more intrinsic functionality within the code.

Coding is fun but time consuming, and when you decide to devote more time into developing quality content, it is wise to choose a Content Management System.

I played around with MovableType, Joomla, Drupal and several others but felt most comfortable with WordPress. The power, flexibility and ingenuity behind WordPress has made it my CMS of choice since 2008.

As new versions of WordPress add more, refined features and functionality, I have been delighted in watching it grow as I have grown in my journey through the realm of cyber-development.
